AFRICA STYLE DAILY: Sound Meets Style - Yolanda Zama, South Africa

Like Romeo and Juliet, Night and Day, Fufu and Light Soup…(pardon our humor) Style and Sound are inexorably tied. In fact we can’t think of a popular artist or music video without thinking of their style.

From the hip-hop swag of Davido, to the suited swag of D’Banj to the goddess-like glam of Lira, established artists are developing their style with just as much focus as their sound. So too are emerging artists, like South Africa’s own Yolanda Zama.

In New York City, where she’s built a cult following since her debut, the stunningly beautiful artist, is identified just as much for her heavenly sound as she is her trademark style. Bold colors, cinched waists and show-stopping accessories are all part of her persona and her stage presence.

For the inaugural column of Style Meets Sound, we sit down with the artist – who is scheduled to open for Goapele at Central Park this month.
